What is the purpose of coaching? The word might be known to all, but do we understand its meaning? To help us define it, instead of using a dictionary let us see the meaning according to the International Coach Federation.
If our definition of coaching is borrowed from high school or college athletics then the word can be misleading to us. There are of course a lot of definitions of the word "Coaching". Coaching is a partnership between a certified skilled coach and a person or team who have one common goal and that is to support the success of extraordinary results. All members of the group or team set their own goals. To reach your goal you have to focus on developing your skills.
What is important in coaching is the process. Coaching and training is two completely different things. A few guidelines have to be followed. The person being coached is expected to drive the conversation, while the coach listens and asks questions. The coach asks questions and provides sound comments.
Coaching can be hugely helpful for a person with his or her mind set on success. In a coaching programme you will get more out of the skills that you already have. You will also be aware of which choices you should make to be more efficient. You are responsible for you own outcome, the coach can't make any decisions or take any actions for you
Coaching is oftentimes a misunderstood practice. For them being coached is being weak. Others even think that being coached is being less skilled. Get those ideas out of your brain. Get to know coaching for what it is.
We all have our own motives for starting with coaching. Very common purposes are for job progress, to learn more, satisfaction, higher performance and even better relationships. The purpose for these is a better quality in life.
