Being Successful In A Business - What Would It Take To Get There?

By Paige Thompson

Business is tough in today's world! There are a lot of small businesses that would abruptly close in the first five years or would go bankrupt. Packing up shop and locking doors is what many of the remainders would do over the course of the next five years. Any ideas why so many businesses fail?

The reasons lie in three main spheres. Personal, customer, and operations are what those spheres of influence are labeled as.

Dealing with the personal motivation to start a business is the Personal Sphere. In order for the business to thrive, an owner needs to be willing to make necessary sacrifices if they want to start their own business because if they don't, then they'll be at a disadvantage when compared to other motivated business people. When a business starts for the first time often it doesn't have a lot of money. To succeed, owners are required to sacrifice money, time, and happiness. If you can't do that, it is unlikely that such a business will flourish. Once the novelty of being your own boss wears off, owners would close the door although there were many times when they thought they could handle the hardship.

The Customer Sphere is one of the most important components of your business. Without customers you do not have sales, without sales you do not have money and without money you do not have a business. To generate a good customer base, there are many factors that into it. A cost effective marketing strategy is what you need to have in the beginning and this should target your intended buyers. You can do this by developing a psychological profile of your customer and in those places that they frequent, you can advertise. Getting a new customer is more expensive than keeping one so you need to make sure that they are satisfied with your product and business. Send them a follow-up letter with a survey in order to keep in touch with them.

Coming in second to the Customer Sphere is the Operations Sphere. An appropriate method of reducing costs, keeping track of paperwork, and maintaining improvement is what you need to have in operations. Operations can also take into effect the tax paperwork, accounting, scheduling of workers, benefits or any non-producing functions.

As long as these three components are appropriately designed and well thought of, your chances of survival will increase. You need to understand the integral details of your business and what it takes to succeed otherwise it could mean failure in the long run. Consider a small business consultant if you are having difficulty in putting all the pieces together.
